Together Again, Again!: From the Artistic Director

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the final production of Seattle Rep’s 2023/24 Season! We’re ending this spring on a high note (or maybe several high notes) with the return of two hilarious local legends: Jinkx Monsoon and Major Scales. These two multitalented entertainers most recently graced the Seattle Rep stage in 2015, and we are thrilled to welcome them back with Together Again, Again!

You might know Jinkx Monsoon from her sprawling resume, which includes winning “RuPaul’s Drag Race” (twice!), appearing in the latest incarnation of the “Doctor Who” franchise, and record-breaking appearances on Broadway in Chicago and in Off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors. Her partner in crime, Major Scales, is also a Seattle icon and musical powerhouse who has been seen on stages around the Sound, all over the country, and across the world. Though this duo has achieved international success, their story starts here in Seattle. Meeting while they were both students at Cornish College of the Arts, Jinkx and Major hit it off and became close collaborators. This artistic partnership, which was nourished by Seattle’s thriving theater and drag scenes, has taken them worldwide (including the U.K., where Together Again, Again! premiered and toured). And now, they’re bringing their signature blend of comedy, music, and pure entertainment back home where it all started, with some new, updated jokes and references for hometown audiences.

Together Again, Again! is an ode to long-term partnership and collaboration. Set over 40 years in the future, the show imagines Jinkx and Major as aging, feuding stars reuniting for one last performance under circumstances I won’t spoil mentioning here. Through song and story, these two washed-up entertainers relive their glory days and remind themselves and us of the simple power of being together again (again). It’s a sneakily profound message for us all to hear, as we wrestle with what it means to be together—in a theater space and in society—following our collective experience of the last four years. And there’s something so right about this show taking over the Bagley Wright stage during Pride Month, celebrating queer expression, history, survival, abundance, and joy. We’re grateful to Jinkx and Major for sharing their talents and their stories with us, and for inviting us to the party.

Like Passengers and Islander earlier this season, Seattle Rep is proud to share a wide range of performance forms with Puget Sound audiences. It’s core to our vision of theater at the heart of public life. With Together Again, Again! we’re thrilled to present cabaret performance and drag at its very best, informed by the rich traditions of queer art in this region, and created by two artists who name this place as one of their homes.

I hope you will join us in celebrating all the excellent artists like Jinkx and Major who have made Seattle Rep what it is by considering an end-of-season donation. And now’s the time to subscribe to our 2024/25 Season, featuring even more local talent in shows built right here at Seattle Rep.

Thank you for being here and for supporting theater at the heart of public life. I leave you in the capable and glitzy hands of two of our region’s most seasoned performers. Have an amazing time, and I can’t wait to welcome you back to the theater this fall for a new season!

All my best,

Dámaso Rodríguez
